I wanted to tell you about an article we just posted on drug testing and see
what you thought of it. While it is geared toward a teen audience, it is
very relevant to college students as well.

As publishers of Web sites that offer information about teen marijuana use,
we often receive a number of questions from teens about drug tests. Many
youth are poorly informed when it comes to how different types of tests
work, who may test them, and whether being around users, particularly
marijuana users, will cause them to test positive even though they didn't
use drugs. While we respond to those inquires on an individual basis, we
thought it would be worth writing an article that places all of this
information in one place.

To help parents and teens get their facts straight, we have compiled a list
of frequently asked questions about drug testing. These include:

o Why should I care about drug testing?
o How many different types of drug testing methods are out there?
o I've seen lots of ads for products that will "wipe my system
 clean".do they work?
o How many days does it take until marijuana can no longer be detected
in my system?
o What about secondhand smoke or "passive inhalation"? Can being
around others who smoke cause me to fail a drug test?

The answers to these questions and links to helpful resources can be found
online at:

PARENTS: One Test You Don't Want Your Child to Fail.Thinking About Drug
Testing

In addition to providing easy-to-understand information, these articles
reinforce the point that the best way to avoid a positive drug test is to
not use drugs. However, if a teen has used drugs in the past, we have
another article that offers tips for how they can tell their
parents/caregivers. Available at http://forreal.samhsa.gov/act/clean.asp,
"Coming Clean: How To Talk to Your Parents About Your Drug Use" offers ways
to start the conversation, how to ask for help, and how to identify if one
has a serious problem.

I look forward to see what you have to say about these articles and I
welcome you to use them on your site or in e-newsletters. If you do use
them, I'd love to know and would appreciate a link back to the original
source.

Thanks and please also let me know if you get any interesting reactions from
the youth or parents you work with on this topic/article
