For those of you who work with people in recovery, I thought you might find
this announcment of interest and relevance to your work. Plus, I think it is
also worth passing on the theme of next year's celebration as it examines
and advocates for the recognition of addiction recovery as a public health
concern by focusing on its benefits.

The 13th annual celebration of National Drug and Alcohol Addiction Recovery
Month was a tremendous success because of organizations and people like you!
As a special thank you, we will be airing a Webcast that showcases Recovery
Month events and activities held throughout the country during September
2002. These events all promote treatment and recovery, and celebrate
individuals who work in the field to help those in need. This program aims
to put a face and voice on recovery, and to salute those who have suffered
from addiction and have the strength and courage to reclaim happy and
healthy lives.

Please join Ivette Torres, Director of Communications and External Liaison,
Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, as she hosts: The Nation's Response to
the Call: A National Showcase of Faces and Voices of Recovery Month. Please

RECOVERY MONTH 2003 THEME ANNOUNCEMENT
"Join the Voices of Recovery: Celebrating Health"

The 2003 National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month will highlight the
contributions of treatment providers and will promote the benefits of
substance abuse treatment. This vital program lets people know that
substance abuse and addiction are public health problems that can be
effectively managed when supported by the entire community.

Recovery Month 2003 September Observance:
* Recovery Month toolkit includes materials for outreach to media,
constituency groups, and special audiences;
* Recovery Month kick-off media event;
* Community forums and events across the country to raise awareness about
substance abuse, treatment, and recovery;
* State and local celebrations and activities; and
* Live multimedia Web-based events.

Materials will be available February 2003 through the Substance Abuse
and Mental Health Services Administration's Recovery Month Web site at
