Program Director, Community-Based Research 

 

The Ontario AIDS Network (OAN), a province-wide coalition of diverse community-based organizations, is seeking a Program Director responsible for building community-based research (CBR) capacity through developing skills building and learning opportunities with OAN members, people with HIV/AIDS (PHAs) and other service providers who work with PHAs.

 

CBR is research with a substantial level of community participation for the purposes of community improvement and social change. The Program Director will facilitate linkages between community-based organizations, academic, student and community researchers and research funders. This position will appeal to a self-directed and creative individual with research experience who enjoys the challenge of balancing multiple projects.

 

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) has provided resources for the OAN to continue its role in providing CBR support in Ontario. 

 

Tasks and Responsibilities:

 

Ø       Create awareness of the program among member organizations, within the HIV/AIDS community and among university-based researchers

Ø       Develop educational materials, workshops and seminars to help stakeholders participate in, understand and use research

Ø       Work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary advisory committee 

Ø       Conduct ongoing needs assessments of stakeholders in relation to CBR

Ø       Facilitate partnerships between community-based organizations, PHAs, community-based and academic researchers as well as research funders and other research-related bodies 

Ø       Establish a program for graduate students to engage in CBR initiatives

Ø       Conduct evaluations and prepare reports for funders

Ø       Participate with other community initiatives and advisory committees to enhance CBR development and promote the work of the OAN

Ø       Participate in other related projects and workshops as required

 

Qualifications and Experience:

 

Ø       Post graduate degree (in health/social sciences) required

Ø       Minimum of 2-5 years related work experience   

Ø       Experience working with HIV/AIDS community organizations 

Ø       Experience in applied research, especially community-based research initiatives, with demonstrated use of qualitative and quantitative methods

Ø       Experience developing, delivering and evaluating workshops

Ø       Understanding of and experience with adult education approaches

Ø       Strong presentation and writing skills

Ø       History of building solid relationships and partnerships

Ø       Experience working with a multisectoral advisory body

Ø       Experience preparing and writing grant proposals

Ø       Solid knowledge of MS Office
