The “Social Determinants and Heart Health Forum” scheduled for Thursday
February 20, 2003 is pleased to announce that Dr. Lawrence W. Green,
Professor of Health Promotion and Director of the Office of Extramural
Prevention Research, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services, has accepted the invitation to deliver
the Keynote Address. Dr. Larry Green is the one of the most respected and
distinguished academics, scientists, and health care service delivery
consultants in North America. His books and research papers are the most quoted
sources in the field of Health Promotion, Public Health, and Health Planning in
general. His professional employment and academic record dating back 30 years
has allowed him to develop cutting-edge projects. Here are just a few of his
past affiliations and honors:
- Director, Institute of Health Promotion Research, Faculty of Graduate
Studies, and Professor and Head, Division of Preventive Medicine and Health
Promotion, Department of Health Care and Epidemiology, Faculty of Medicine,
University of British Columbia.
- Founding Director, Center for Health Promotion Research and Development, A
WHO Collaborating Center, The University of Texas Health Science Center at
Houston.
-Vice President, Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation
-Elected Fellow and Recipient of the First Scholar Laureate Award, American
Academy of Health Behavior.
-John P. McGovern Award, University of Texas Health Sciences Center at
Houston.
Invited Forum Facilitators: Facilitators in different fields (e.g., heart
health, income inequities, health promotion, racial, gender and aging issues)
will lead Thematic Group discussions which will be the foundation for the final
Program and Service Recommendations section of the Forum.
Forum Delegates: Delegates who register for the Forum will be asked to select
one of the Forum Thematic Groups, which will produce a major Programme or
Service Position Statement to be discussed AND ratified by the Forum as a
whole during the Forum Integration Session.
Best Practices Forum Poster Sessions: Canadians have been leaders in the
planning, implementation and evaluation of innovative health programmes and
services that take into consideration the social, political, and economic
characteristics of their clients. Forum delegates will have an opportunity
to share these "best practices" in the social determinants and heart health
field with the other delegates and the Media attending the conference.
The City of Toronto, York University, and the Heart Health Forum planning
committee are extremely honored and pleased that Dr. Lawrence Green has taken
the time from his very busy schedule to deliver the Keynote Address at the
upcoming Forum at 10 am, Thursday February 20, 2003 at York University.
