Dear Participants on the list,

Health Promotion Training and Education. A global survey for the Jakarta
meeting.

(Revised 1997-06-10)

During May 1997 an E-mail survey was conducted following a request from WHO
Geneva. The aim was to determine the extent and content of Health Promotion
Training and Education world-wide.

The outcome of this survey is provided at the web pages of WHO
COLLABORATING CENTRE ON SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENTS FOR HEALTH with URL
address: http://www.ki.se/phs/wcc_seh/main.html and more specifically at:
http://www.ki.se/phs/wcc_seh/education/main.html

The survey and analysis has been limited to academic institutions providing
undergraduate or (post)-graduate education. Other selection criteria for
inclusion on the www data base have included the presentation on internet
web pages of the education programme and if there are a contact person
available through an E-mail address. Additionally we asked if there was a
philosophy which underpinned the course. The results of this are also
presented.

In total 45 providers replied to the request. 27 response were from the(WHO)
European region: 12 responses were from the USA and Canada: and 6 from the
rest of the world. The academic health promotion programmes have been
divided into undergraduate education and Masters(M.Sc, MPH etc) in Health
Promotion and higher postgraduate programmes which include Master of Science
and Doctoral degrees. The last category included shorter non award bearing
courses such as summer schools. With such a limited response rate and
because of the nature of the survey, there are many educational programmes
and courses in Health Promotion that are not included in the data base.

Please provide us ([log in to unmask]) with information and www addresses
if you want your course to be registered when we update the web pages.

At the Health Promotion Research Internet Network Links URL address:
http://www.ki.se/phs/hprin/main.htm you will also be able to find the web
addresses to a number of Schools of Public Health around the world.

yours
