I would like to make you aware of the following two job opportunities with the Community Garden Network of Ottawa.  The first is a one-year contract for a Coordinator for the CGN, and the second is for a person to assist the CGN in working with the City of Ottawa in developing policies to support community gardening. EXTERNAL COMPETITION
COMMUNITY GARDEN NETWORK (CGN) COORDINATOR
COMMUNITY HEALTH PROMOTION
POSITION STATUS:        1 Year Contract 0.6 FTE (possibility of extension)
SALARY RANGE:           $40,574 - $48,603 (pro rated to part-time)  plus benefits    (Under Review)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Working under the sponsorship of the Sandy Hill Community Health Centre, the CGN includes representatives from established and planned community gardens and partner organizations who work to support and promote community gardening in the City of Ottawa. The Coordinator provides direct support to CGN members for the planning, establishment and operation of community gardens, and provides leadership and support to the Network in activities which will strengthen community gardening across Ottawa (e.g. raising profile of community gardening; developing policies, structures and partnerships to support community gardening, coordinating special events).  The CGN Coordinator will work in collaboration with the CGN Municipal Policy Project Worker and the CGN Committee.

BASIC/ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
@       Two years of post-secondary education
@       At least two years' experience in community development with diverse populations
@       Knowledge of planning and policy development process at the municipal government level
@       Strong leadership skills
@       Strong group facilitation skills
@       Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution skills and networking skills
@       Strong organizational, coordination and administrative skills
@       Strong research, writing and presentation skills
@       Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness and problem-solving abilities
@       Ability to write funding proposals
@       Basic knowledge of, and interest in organic gardening
@          Competence in using computer programs, including WordPerfect and graphics software, e-mail and Internet
@       Strong written and spoken English; strong ability in spoken French

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Specific hours of work to be determined based on the needs of the CGN and may involve occasional evening or weekend work.  Successful candidates must undergo a criminal reference check to the satisfaction of the Sandy Hill Community Health Centre.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Working under the sponsorship of Sandy Hill Community Health Centre, the CGN includes representatives from community gardens and partner organizations who work to support and promote community gardening in the City of Ottawa.  The Municipal Policy Project Worker will assist the CGN in the process of working collaboratively with the City of Ottawa to develop policies to support the development of community gardens (e.g. in areas such as land use planning, environment, parks, housing).  S/He will also assist the CGN in developing effective relations with municipal officials and politicians to support the policy development process.  The Policy Project Worker will work in collaboration with the CGN Policy Working Committee and the CGN Coordinator.
