Now, if it was repeated 100,000 times like the fruits and vegetables messages
that get peddled in the media we could make some progress with public
understanding!

"Twenty or 30 years ago, health experts tried to get everyone
jogging or
butting out. Today, health policy is dominated by a recognition
of the links
between ill health and income inequality, poor early childhood
development
and social isolation. This "population health" approach argues
there has been
too much money spent on "illness care" -- as in hospitals --
and not enough
on the broader determinants of health, such as adequate
nutrition for children
and, subsequently, better education.
There is a growing belief that focusing on the individual was
often too
judgmental. For some people, cigarettes may be life's only
pleasure; for a
lonely senior, the bottle the most loyal companion.
