Using the document that Michel O' Neill talks about in previous email I had
put together a list of the initiatives that aim to synthesis/disseminate
evidence of the effectiveness of HP programs and services. Have cut and
past the info below

Where would I find that?
The effectiveness of health promotion programs
A number of major initiatives are under way to synthesise and disseminate
evidence of the effectiveness of health promotion. Just a quick summary of
the ones I know of, from across the world (with internet links).
1. The Victorian Government (Australia) is committed to supporting
evidence-based practice in the planning and implementation of effective
health promotion action. The practical use of evidence promises better
health outcomes by informing practitioners, program planners and funding
bodies as they develop and select health promotion strategies, methods and
activities. The following four documents initiate the series:
· Evidence-Based Health Promotion: Resources for Planning. No.1 - Oral
Health www.dhs.vic.gov.au/phd/ebhp/01oral.htm
· Evidence-Based Health Promotion: Resources for Planning. No.2 -
Adolescent Health
www.dhs.vic.gov.au/phd/ebhp/02adolescent.htm
· Evidence-Based Health Promotion: Resources for Planning. No.3 - Falls
Prevention

· Evidence-Based Health Promotion: Resources for Planning. No.4 - Child
Injury Prevention
www.dhs.vic.gov.au/phd/ebhp/04child.htm
The next four being developed include:
· Public Health Nutrition
· Body Image
· Diabetes
· Cardiovascular Disease
2. The Cochrane Health Promotion and Public health field

3. National Health Service Centre for Reviews and Dissemination
(NHS-CRD), a sibling organisations to the Cochrane Centre, most reviews
focus on health care to support England's National Health Service but some
reviews do examine health promotion and disease prevention topics.

4. The Health Inequalities Research Collaboration (HIRC). Research in
Australia and overseas has shown that people who experience social and
economic disadvantage tend to be sicker and die younger than others. The
goal of the Collaboration is to enhance Australia's knowledge on the causes
of and effective responses to health inequalities, and to promote
vigorously the application of this evidence to reduce health inequalities
in Australia.

5. The Campbell Collaboration: Focuses on the effects of social and
educational policies and practices

6. The Effective Public Health Practice Project (EPHPP) is a key
initiative of the Public Health Research, Education and Development (PHRED)
Program. It is jointly funded by the Canadian Ministry of Health and
Long-Term Care and the City of Hamilton, Social and Public Health Services
Department.
