CDC's 2003 Cancer Conference, Comprehensive Approaches to Cancer Control-The
Public Health Role, will be held September 15-18, 2003 at the Marriott
Marquis Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia.

Conference Cosponsors include: American Cancer Society; Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention; Chronic Disease Directors; National Cancer
Institute; and the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS  DEADLINE EXTENDED:

The deadline to submit an abstract for CDC's 2003 Cancer Conference has
been extended by one week. The new deadline for abstract submission is
February 24, 2003.

Abstracts chosen for presentation at the conference will reach over 1,200
attendees representing local, state, territorial, tribal, federal,
national, and community-based cancer prevention and control
programs.  Abstracts should focus on the role of public health in cancer
prevention, early detection, treatment, rehabilitation, and palliation
issues.

**February 24, 2003 is the final deadline to submit an abstract**

conference.

ABSTRACT REQUIREMENTS

Abstracts should focus on the role of public health in cancer prevention,
early detection, treatment, rehabilitation, and palliation issues. We
invite both programmatic and scientific abstracts.

* Programmatic abstracts describe the development and/or implementation of
a program, coalition, other public health initiative for cancer prevention
and early detection, program evaluation effort, educational initiative or a
communications or outreach/inreach project.

* Scientific (research) abstracts describe the use of qualitative or
quantitative research methods to answer a research question.

*Abstracts should describe original work and must be in English. An
individual may submit more than one abstract.

*Both oral or poster presentations are allowed. Oral presentations will be
15 minutes in length with an additional 5 minutes allotted for questions
and answers.

*Special events may be coordinated with poster presentation authors.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE:

Held biennially since 1999, CDC's 2003 Cancer Conference will be the third
interdisciplinary conference focused on strengthening the public health's
role in developing comprehensive approaches to cancer control.

The conference sessions will cover a range of topics including prevention,
early detection, treatment, rehabilitation, quality of life, and
survivorship. Plenary sessions, concurrent topic discussions, short
courses, abstract and poster presentations, exhibits, and computer
demonstrations will provide opportunities for skill-building, information
sharing, networking, and building new partnerships.
