CANADIAN HIV/AIDS SKILLS DATABASE
The Interagency Coalition on AIDS and Development (ICAD) has developed a
Canadian HIV/AIDS skills database. It is a searchable database profiling
the skills, expertise and experience that Canadian AIDS Service
Organizations (ASOs), universities and colleges, non-governmental
organizations (NGOs), faith-based organizations and other interested
professional organizations can provide in the fight against HIV/AIDS
internationally. Visit: http://www.icad-cisd.com/hiv/

MÉDECINS SANS FRONTIÈRES DENOUNCES G8 ACTION PLAN ON HEALTH
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has denounced the G8 Action Plan on
Health, criticizing the deliberate sacrifice of solutions to increase
access to essential medicines in favour of G8 political and commercial
interests. The only section of the Action Plan that shows determination
is for SARS. Diseases that primarily affect poor people and occur in
places of little consequence to the global economy are not treated with
the same urgency. For the full article, visit: http://www.msf.ca/

BARRIERS TO ACCESSING AND ANALYZING HEALTH INFORMATION IN CANADA
The Canadian Institute for Health Information has published a report on
the barriers to accessing and analyzing health information in Canada on
its website. This report documents the analytic challenges faced by a
CPHI research project team in trying to conduct population health
research in Canada. A collaborative network of university-based
researchers in five provinces (British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba,
Ontario and Nova Scotia) conducted the project. It was hoped that this
innovative approach would help to navigate inter-provincial and federal
differences in policies governing data access and data sharing, and
overcome inter-provincial barriers to analysis arising from differences
in the concepts and definitions used in provincial databases. This
report documents the process of assembling the data for this project,
describes the logistical and organizational barriers to combining
federal and provincial data resources and expertise, and offers
recommendations on how to overcome these barriers. The report is
available at: http://www.cihi.ca/cihiweb/dispPage.jsp?cw_page=GR_282_E
