2003 HILLMAN AWARD FOR BEST STUDENT PRESENTATION AT THE 10th CANADIAN
CONFERENCE ON INTERNATIONAL HEALTH

The Hillman Award was created in 2001, to honour Dr. Elizabeth and Dr.
Donald Hillman’s commitment to students and their participation in
international health.  The award of $250 is given to the best student
presentation at the Canadian Conference on International Health.  The
abstract submission deadline for the conference is April 30, 2003. For

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: CSIH LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

All members of the Canadian Society for International Health are invited
to submit one or more nominations for the CSIH 2003 Lifetime Achievement
Award. The purpose of this award is to publicly recognize a member of
the Society who has made a substantial contribution to the field of
international health throughout their career. This Award will be
presented to the recipient at the Society’s annual Canadian Conference
on International Health (CCIH) to be held October 26-29, 2003. Award
recipients must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant; a member of
CSIH; and involved in international health for at least 15 years.  For

PAHO 2004 TRAINING PROGRAM IN INTERNATIONAL HEALTH

Young health professionals in the Americas, who have leadership skills
as well as an intense interest in the international dimensions of
health, are invited to apply for the Pan American Health Organization's
18th Training Program in International Health (TPIH-2004).  The training
process will involve participants in a work-study format at PAHO in
Washington, D.C. for a period of 11 months starting February 2, 2004.

Canadian candidates are invited to request their application form and

WITHIN REACH: AN ONLINE MAGAZINE ON INTERNATIONAL HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT

Queen's Medical Outreach of Queen's University has created the online
magazine Within Reach - a first hand look at international health and
development.  The inaugural issue features first-hand accounts, stories
and insights from individuals with diverse backgrounds: in particular -
students, doctors, and NGO field workers, with international work and

NEW WEBSITE: ARE YOU HIV PREJUDICED?

The National AIDS Trust of the United Kingdom has launched a new website
to tackle HIV related Stigma and Discrimination. The site features
stories and fact sheets on HIV as well as the stigma and discrimination

E-DISCUSSION: THE ROLE OF BUSINESS IN FIGHTING HIV/AIDS

The World Bank Institute and UN Global Compact are organizing a global
e-conference on the Role of Business in Fighting HIV/AIDS from April 21
to May 9, 2003. The main objective of this online dialogue is to provide
an opportunity for participants from around the world to share their
expertise and ideas to advance the role of business in fighting
HIV/AIDS, and to develop action-oriented recommendations for

CALL FOR TECHNICAL REVIEW PANEL MEMBERS: THE GLOBAL FUND TO FIGHT AIDS,
TUBERCULOSIS AND MALARIA

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria is recruiting
experts to serve on the Technical Review Panel (TRP) to review the
proposals. Individuals with expert technical knowledge and extensive
experience in one of the following areas are sought:
•       HIV/AIDS
•       Tuberculosis
•       Malaria
•       Cross cutting issues (such as institutional and governance
issues, macro-economics in a health sector context, absorptive capacity)

NEW WEBSITE: GLOBAL HEALTH QUEST

Global Health Quest is an educational website for anyone interested in
learning more about Médecins Sans Frontières's (MSF) field operations
through simulated field scenarios. Site users will login to join a
project team and choose a role as an MSF field volunteer. They will then
read a dossier on the country context, MSF policies and project goals
and discuss and collaborate with other team members online to create
