1. HOT TOPIC IN HEALTHY LIVING FROM THE ALBERTA CENTRE FOR ACTIVE LIVING
To coincide with the SummerActive event, the Alberta Centre for Active
Living is coordinating five Hot Topics in Healthy Living. The centre has
produced this week's Hot Topic information sheet, "Taking Steps toward
Improved Health," which describes the many benefits of walking.

This Hot Topic is available at

During the SummerActive campaign, the Alberta Centre for Active Living will
post a new Hot Topic every Tuesday on its web site. Watch for further e-mail
messages as each Hot Topic information sheet is posted!

- Did you know that the centre has extensive information about walking and
using pedometers on our web site? Visit

more information.

- Joanne Gesell, Alberta Centre for Active Living Education Coordinator, is
the author of next month's Active Living feature article, “Stepping up your
physical activity: Walking to improve your health,”  on the Canadian Health
Network web site. This article is full of practical information about
getting started, setting goals, measuring progress, and overcoming barriers
to walking. You can access this information on the CHN home page
(http://www.canadian-health-network.ca/customtools/homee.html) on June 1.

- The centre's library database is up and running! The Alberta Centre for
Active Living's library includes resources on physical activity, active
living, chronic disease prevention, the benefits of recreation, health
promotion, population health, health determinants, nutrition, heart health,
and workplace wellness.To view the database, visit

- You can now order copies of the 101 Active Living Ideas for Older Adults
Poster. This poster resource contains 101 suggestions for ways older adults
can be active. To order copies, please print out the order form that you
