In order to perform emergency maintenance, there will be a few brief
interruptions in York's DNS and DHCP services between 7:30am and
8:30am on Tuesday May 27.

The DNS servers are used by internet applications to convert host
names to network IP addresses. DHCP servers are used to assign
IP addresses to specific computers at York.

People who have correctly configured their computers with the IP
addresses of three York DNS servers will likely experience small
delays on all internet connections during the server outage. Users
who have configured their computers with only one DNS server will
likely suffer a complete outage on all network connections.

DHCP service users (ex: campus computer labs, YorkNet users), may
notice a delay of up to several minutes getting an IP address
from the DHCP servers during this outage. Any machines turned on
before the outage and assigned IP addresses by the DHCP servers
prior to the outage will not be affected.

Information about York's DNS service including the IP addresses of
the DNS servers is available on the web at
http://www.yorku.ca/netops/dns.html
