A recent New Brunswick study
(http://www.globeandmail.ca/servlet/story/RTGAM.20040228.wsex28/BNStory/Front/)reported
in the Globe and Mail, found that university students have fuzzy ideas about
sex, sexual activity and associated risks. This report continues the series
of similar stories, including the case of the PEI baseball star that was
convicted of having oral; sex with a minor.

The Canadian Youth Sexual Health and HIV/AIDS Study (CYSHHAS)
(http://www.cmec.ca/publications/aids/) has findings that underline this
lack of knowledge among today's young people. For example, this study
reported that:
- almost three-quarter of Grade 9 students thought that anal sex was safer
than vaginal sex for transmission of HIV and STI
- almost half of Grade 9 students thought that there is a cure for AIDS
- almost two-thirds of Grade 9 students thought that chlamydia does not lead
to serious complications

This national study reported on knowledge, attitudes and behaviours as well
as related influencing factors (determinants).
