The eighteen to twenty-four age group is one of the key targets of the Alberta Tobacco Reduction Strategy for 2003/2004. This age group has the highest prevalence of smoking in Alberta. Many reasons are given for this, including the fact that this age group has been largely ignored as a specific target age for tobacco reduction interventions while simultaneously being targeted by tobacco companies.  In addition, this age has a loosening influence of parents or school authorities, and one with a high degree of stress and uncertainty.  These factors are also combined with an age that places a high value on social activities and group bonding.

AADAC invites applicants who are interested in developing programs, policies, and/or projects that address the psychosocial and environmental determinants of smoking among this age group. Applicants can include post-secondary institutions, regional health authorities, non-profit agencies, student organizations etc. All applicant organizations must be legal entities or partner with a legal entity that will accept responsibility for administering the funds.
