Hi Micheal !
Here in Liverpool health promotion has been incorporated into
strategic planning in a number of ways by the City Council and other
agencies. The liverpool healthy City paln has been the main vehicle
that has brought the different elements together but the process by
whicvh it was created and the subsquent use has encouraged
contributing agencies to incorporate health on their agendas. Thus
health has been written into Objective 1 funding ( money for poor
areas form the EU) and increasingly into othr aspects like children
services , envrionment , transport , housing. The City Council
executive now requires each department to demontrate in its yearly
performance indicators what contribution it makes to the health and
the health plan. The local health Authoirty has started to do simialr
things and ensures its plans coordinate with the City Council. This is
a very brief summary of a complex process which in fact I am currently
writing up with the Liverpool healthy Cities Coordinator. It is truely
healthy Pulic Policy in the making . I am fortunate to be a my
Univrsit's representative on the joint Public health Team that is the
Strategic planning body consisting of the two Universities, City
Council, health Authority, trades Council and the Business sector.
I will send you some material
Best Wishes jane
