"Finding Your Way - The Road to a Healthy Pregnancy"

The County of Lambton - Community Health Services Department has developed a video and guidebook. These resources may be of particular interest to those of you working in the area of healthy pregnancies and are looking for teaching tools. These resources were made possible through the Early Child Development (0-6 years of age) initiative, Population Health Service, Public Health Branch, Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-term Care.

The video takes viewers on a "journey" through pregnancy and preparation for parenthood. With compelling visuals, music, animation, tips from professionals and parents, the video provides valuable prenatal and postpartum information for women, their partners and families. The tape runs 18 minutes long.

The accompanying guide can be used as a follow-up to the video, or on its own. Designed in a question/answer format, the guide reinforces the topics covered in the video such as: nutrition, exercise, drugs and alcohol, handling stress and getting support, and the transition to parenthood. The guidebook is 10 pages.

In addition, a PSA "Abuse During Pregnancy: Getting Support and Information" is available. This 30 second Television Public Service Announcement shows how abuse can start or worsen during pregnancy. A billboard at the end, encouraging women to seek help, can be tailored to provide specific local contact information.

All Public Health Units in Ontario have received copies of the video and guidebook.
