I am writing to you on behalf of the Canadian Breast Cancer Network to let
you know about an exciting new initiative that was discussed at a recent
meeting of breast cancer advocates from across Canada. The meeting was
called SOLARIS: Summit of Opinion leaders - Advice, Research, Information
and Support.
At SOLARIS we discussed the idea of conducting a research project on the
information and educational needs of women with breast cancer. We feel this
is an important initiative, so we are asking for your help to ensure its
success.
Getting the right information at the right time is important for all women
with breast cancer. However, this project focuses on a specific group of
women: women who have had one occurrence of non-metastatic breast cancer and
who have completed at least 4 years of tamoxifen therapy. No Canadian study
has looked at the perspectives of breast cancer survivors at this treatment
milestone.
We hope that the results of this study will improve patient education and
access to information by patients at this point in the treatment process.
The Canadian Breast Cancer Network will ensure that study results are
communicated to the breast cancer community and to others, including
healthcare practitioners, governments and educators. Results will also be
incorporated into educational materials and programs for women with breast
cancer. We have asked Ipsos Reid, an independent health research company, to
conduct the research project.
It is easy to participate in this study. You can either request a paper
copy, with postage paid return envelope, from the CBCN office at
1-800-685-8820 ext 225 (Maureen) or [log in to unmask], or you can complete the
survey on-line by going to www.ipsosresearch.com/earlybreastcancer2
The whole survey should take you approximately 20 minutes to finish. We
value your participation and a $15 donation to the Canadian Breast Cancer
Network will be made for every completed survey. The Network will return
this funding to the breast cancer community through Community Capacity
Building grants, which will enable breast cancer support and other groups to
cover the cost of hiring a facilitator or speaker for educational workshops.
For more information on the granting process, please contact me at
1-800-685-8820 ext 222 or [log in to unmask]
Your participation in the study is completely voluntary. Your survey
responses will be kept strictly confidential. Neither your name nor any
other personal identification will be associated with your answers.
We appreciate your help in making this research study a success!
