Gender inequality is a fundamental driver of HIV transmission in all
populations, especially among those most at risk of acquiring HIV.
AIDSTAR-One has recently produced a series of nine case studies
documenting  how programs in Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin
America, and the Middle East have successfully addressed gender
inequality and discrimination to increase access to HIV prevention,
care, and treatment in mixed HIV epidemics.

Indonesia's STIGMA Foundation uses a peer outreach model to empower men
and women who inject drugs to live safer, healthier, and productive
lives. 
 
Outreach to Most-at-Risk Populations Through SIDC in Lebanon
Outreach workers in Lebanon take a personalized approach to raising HIV
 awareness among hidden populations by delivering basic health
information,  offering counseling to support positive behavior change,
and distributing free  condoms, syringes, and lubricants.
 
PRASIT: Using Strategic Behavioral Communication to Change Gender Norms
in Cambodia
In Cambodia, the PRASIT program uses strategic behavior change
communication to target entertainment workers, their middle class and
male clients, and men who have sex with men.
 
SANGRAM's Collectives
SANGRAM's women-led network of collective empowerment groups in India
is developing and administering projects that promote and protect the
rights and health of MARPs.
 
Empowering Men Who Have Sex with Men to Live Healthy Lives in Colombia

Bogotá's LGBT Community Center provides a social and educational base
for its clients, while also advocating for their rights.
 
Sex Work and Life with Dignity: Sex Work, HIV, and Human Rights Program
in Peru
The Sex Work, HIV, and Human Rights Program in Peru uses a democratic
and participatory approach to advocate for sex workers' rights to access
to critical health services.
 
Breaking New Ground in Vietnam
CARE International's STEP program in Vietnam seeks to ensure that both
men and women have equal access to services to prevent STIs, safeguard
their health, avoid gender-based violence, and participate in
income-generating activities.
 
Different Needs But Equal Rights: Giving Voice to Transgender
Communities through ASPIDH in El Salvador
In El Salvador, the Solidarity Association to Promote Human Development
(ASPIDH) is promoting the rights of transgender communities to mitigate
their HIV risk via sensitization, education, and advocacy activities.

"Follow the Voice of Life": HIV Prevention and Empowerment of MSM in
Orenburg, Russia 
In Russia, the "Follow the Voice of Life" community program----created
by and for MSM----offers a range of free HIV services and counseling in
a supportive environment
