Global sustainability about more than global warming

The polar bear, declared an endangered species by the United Nations, is
likely to become extinct due to the melting of the ice, its home. You
might ask what this has to do with you. Around the world, we see
evidence of climate change, and the struggle to adapt is upon us - and
the polar bear.

 

Online networking for social good - A global approach

Which online social networking website has nearly 200,000 members in
over 200 countries and more than 40 million hits a month? Facebook?
Friendster? MySpace? The answer is TakingITGlobal.org, an up-and-coming
site focused on inspiring, informing, and involving youth for social
good. Enthusiastic about the possibilities that exist with
TakingITGlobal, Jessie-Lee Langille, a Master of Science (MSc) student
in Health Promotion Studies at the School of Public Health, is
leveraging this technology and her education to gain real world
experience in community development. 

 

The POWER of interdisciplinary research

We hear about it on the radio or read about it in the newspaper on
almost a daily basis. Recent headlines have shouted "Obesity epidemic:
Out of control." "Obesity: A looming national threat?" "Obesity
'epidemic' turns global." However, there's more to curbing this epidemic
than simply telling people to eat their vegetables and walk around the
block a few times.

 

U of A Centenary Address

On January 28, 2008, Dr. Indira V. Samarasekera, President and
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Alberta delivered a Centenary
Address. It was recorded live from the historic Convocation Hall at the
formal launch of the University's 2008 Centenary celebrations.
