Today (Friday, 22 February 2008) in the Ontario Health Promotion Email
Bulletin (OHPE), the feature article is
Health Equity: Programs, Projects and Practice, written by Pam Kinzie,
Program Coordinator, of Ontario's Heart Health Resource Centre (HHRC)
http://www.ohpe.ca/ebulletin/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=9
403&Itemid=78
or http://www.ohpe.ca and click on the Latest Newsletter in the left
frame.

It is a long article offering a welcome overview of health equity issues
globally, nationally and in the province of Ontario. It is well worth
reading, keeping and passing on to others. Much of the article draws
upon the HHRC symposium in November 2007 on "Health Equity: Are We There
Yet?" which examined the social determinants of health through a chronic
disease prevention lens.
The Sudbury District Health Unit is highlighted for acting locally on
social determinants of health. Examples of their strategies and related
projects are noted in the article, including strategies such as: Inform
public opinion-- act as a catalyst and enabler; Assist or lead in the
development of a health charter; Advocate --participate in equity-based
local planning.
Other programs, projects and practices of community partnerships are
described, with a fine summary and selection of references and related
resources.

Check it out.
