Here is a summary of responses I received to my recent query of SDOH
listserv subscribers for names of journals that publish qualitative
studies.

Qualitative Health Research was mentioned most often. It was described
as an international, interdisciplinary journal with a good reputation
and as "consistently the most rigorous and theoretically sophisticated
of them all." It can be accessed online through Sage Journals at
http://online.sagepub.com or http://qhr.sagepub.com.

Qualitative Research was also suggested. The writer noted that its focus
is on methods.

One person wrote: If the topic has to do with health, practically all
nursing research and clinical journals publish qualitative health
research - and many are open to research done by other disciplines as
long as it relates to health. Nursing Research, Research in Nursing and
Health, Western Journal of Nursing Research, Journal of Nursing
Scholarship, Qualitative Health Research, Scholarly Inquiry in Nursing,
Journal of Transcultural Nursing, Journal of Advanced Nursing, Journal
of Community Health Nursing, Public Health Nursing, Journal of
Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, to name a few.

Another writer suggested these journals as well:

Journal of Educational Research
Journal of Higher Education
Journal of Research in Science Teaching
Journal of Counseling and Development
Educational Researcher
The Review of Higher Education
Theory into Practice
Journal for the Education of the Gifted
Anthropology and Education Quarterly
Educational and Psychological Measurement
Journal of Counseling Psychology
Theory and Research in Social Education
The Journal of General Psychology
Administrative Science Quarterly
American Educational Research Journal
Comparative Education Review
Qualitative Inquiry
Evaluation Review
Health Education Quarterly
Journal of Nursing Scholarship

Another writer offered this helpful tip: 'PubMed' now has a qualitative
a user-friendly research filter that facilitates locating qualitative
studies in the database. For more information, go to:
