Sandi, I mentioned that to the woman, that patients had a right to view
their own files. She still refused to allow me a mammogram, citing policy.
It's situations like this that have me so turned off our monolithic
healthcare system. There's no flexibility, no alternative entryways, and no
access to new approaches.

Many WISE women, including me, hate visiting medical professionals, many of
whom seem to have developed a god complex. We want to be in control of our
own fate and not to have to tamely trot off to some know-it-all who in fact
doesn't know it all and whose ego has been bloated by the self-perpetuating
'crisis' in Canada's healthcare system. (Twice a doctor has begun to
prescribe me a wrong dose, which I corrected.)

In my own case, there's only one thing I have to visit a doctor regularly
for - thyroid medication. I have not seen a doctor for any other reason in
more than a dozen years and I wouldn't go at all if the system weren't set
up to ensure that I can't get access to the medication any other way. If
there were only a natural alternative!!

I HATE having to go to a doctor to get a prescription for medication I've
been taking since 1984. The argument for people like me to dutifully report
in is that blood tests need to be done, to monitor whether the dosage needs
changing. Well, symptoms tell an experienced patient whether a dose needs to
be changed, and whether it should be up or down. At the least, such patients
should be allowed to get their medication directly from a pharmacy rather
than be required to include a health professional middle-man - who makes you
feel that your five minutes, for which they bill the system considerably
more, is taking up far too much of their time.
