Subject: US drops to 27th in Health Olympics as Barbados moves ahead
The UN just released its 2004 Human Development Report and table 1
contains the life expectancies for 2002. In last year's report, with data
for 2001, the US slipped from 25th to tie for 26th (with Barbardos).
But in this Olympic year, we just couldn't maintain our pace in the race.
Japan increased its lead as well. Canada remained in fifth place.
Here are the finishers ahead of us in order:
Japan
Sweden
Hong Kong, China (SAR)
Iceland
Canada
Spain
Australia
Switzerland
Israel
Norway
France
Belgium
Italy
Austria
Netherlands
Luxembourg
Malta
New Zealand
Germany
Greece
Cyprus
United Kingdom
Singapore
Costa Rica
Finland
Barbados
To see the report go to: http://hdr.undp.org/reports/global/2004/
Stay tuned next year to see if we continue our descent.
Stephen
