Project Officer - Substance Abuse Prevention (RISK project)
1.0 FTE Permanent
Salary: $24.94 per hour - $29.18 per hour (under review)
Location: Gravenhurst, Ontario
The RISK project officer works closely with health unit staff, community partners, health professionals, volunteers and the public to plan, implement and evaluate substance abuse prevention programs and initiatives. The project is overseen by a steering committee of community partners in Muskoka and Parry Sound districts.
Responsibilities:
§ The successful applicant will work under the direction of the RISK Steering Committee for project management (planning, implementation, and evaluation) as well as for performance recognition and guidance. He/she reports to the Manager, Violence and Injury Prevention Program in relation to employee standards, health unit policies and procedures and personnel matters.
§ The successful applicant will be required to be a leader, coordinator, and resource in substance abuse prevention programming within the community. She/he will also be required to work with partner agencies and with the Health Unit to support and promote collaborative programming in accordance with the project plan.
§ She/he will be required to maintain communication with the Ministry of Health on behalf of the project and prepare the necessary documentation to support the project and fulfill narrative and financial reporting requirements.
§ This position requires the ability to travel to locations away from assigned office in a timely manner

§ Well developed oral and written communication skills
§ Organizational skills and flexibility
§ Creative problem solving skills
§ Well developed facilitation skills
§ Knowledge of issues related to substance abuse prevention.
§ Program planning, design, implementation and evaluation experience
§ Knowledge and experience in using a multiple strategies approach
§ Ability to provide leadership and work collaboratively with health unit staff, program managers and community partners
§ Community development and volunteer recruitment/recognition skills
§ Knowledge of health promotion concepts and population health approaches
Qualifications:
§ Baccalaureate degree in a health related field, social science, nursing or equivalent education and experience as determined by the Program Director
