The School of Public Health at the University of Alberta is pleased to
announce a new issue of our newsletter, Healthe-news.

In this issue:

Regional health-care approach still has a role - As Alberta moves toward
a single health board, it's important not to destroy what has worked in
the past. While there were some strains in Alberta's regional health
system, let's not forget the many benefits it brought. At the outset it
is very important to separate the two sides of regionalization --
governance of the system and the actual program delivery.

Palmer completes term as interim dean - When he accepted the appointment
as interim dean of the School of Public Health at the University of
Alberta in March 2006, Roger Palmer took on the monumental task of
launching a brand new faculty. Now, two and a half years later, as he is
about to complete his term as interim dean, Palmer reflects on the
progress made since the inception of the School.

U of A health grads to assault junk food culture in schools - A modest
school health program in Annapolis Valley, N.S. has blossomed into a
fully grown University of Alberta project that may change the way we
feed our kids in school. Called APPLE (Alberta Project Promoting active
Living & healthy Eating), the School of Public Health project has placed
10 highly trained young university grads into schools in the Edmonton
area with the aim of changing the sedentary, junk food culture found in
our schools.

Professor celebrated for long service to the University - For the past
100 years, the University of Alberta has been influencing the world
through teaching, research, and good works. As an ever-evolving
institution, the University relies on its faculty and staff to be the
backbone of a culture of excellence.

On November 18th, at the University's annual Celebration of Service,
Lory Laing, was recognized for contributing to this culture through her
35 years of outstanding service.
