Subject: [CLICK4HP] Universal versus targetted approaches
Daniel McSweeney ([log in to unmask]) recently asked:
I am looking for any evaluations which examine the benefits of targeting
programs to low income, newcomer, or isolated parents vs. universal programs
targeting all parents. I would appreciate advice on studies, links, and
other resources
Daniel,
I am not sure if this would fit within the parameters of your search (given
this is not technically a parenting program at all really - though some
offer workshops and the like), but I would be very curious to see any
intermediary results of the longitudinal study the province of Quebec has
underway to evaluate their early childhood education centres (universal
$7./day day cares). Having chaired the board of one of these centres for a
while, I personally was able to see many obvious advantages of the universal
approach (though the province continues to promise more spaces than they can
build). Feel free to contact me if you like and good luck.
