Trends in mortality by neighbourhood income in urban Canada from 1971 to
1996

http://www.statcan.ca/english/freepub/82-003-SIE/2002001/pdf/82-003-SIE2002007.pdf

From 1971 to 1996, differences in life expectancy between the richest and
poorest income quintiles diminished by well over 1 year for each sex.
Differences in infant mortality declined by 7 per thousand (76%). The rate
of income-related excess potential years of life lost before age 75
diminished by 35%. For most causes of death, socio-economic disparities in
mortality diminished markedly over
time. However, some causes of death showed little change, and a few showed
clearly widening disparities.
---------------------
Note the explosion of disbetes-related deaths in poor urban neighbourhoods
since 1986.
