We've just received confirmation that Gerrard Kennedy, MPP, is coming to speak about provinicial initiatives for children ages 6-12yrs.  Details of the conference are as follows:
Middle Years Matter Conference
What are our kids doing after school?
(3 p.m. to 6 p.m. is a high-risk time for all children)

This one-day, practical, learning opportunity is for everyone concerned about children ages 6 to 12 years.

Middle Years Matter Working Group is expanding. Currently the group includes representatives from Adventure Place, Better Beginnings NOW, Doorsteps Neighbourhood Services, Delta Family Resource Centre, Children's Aid Society of Toronto, Toronto Parks and Recreation, Toronto Public Health, Parent Child Network of West Toronto, St. Christopher House, Toronto District School Board and Hincks-Dellcrest Centre.

Goal:  to increase awareness of the need for resources for children between the ages of 6-12 (middle years) and establish a coalition of interested stakeholders

Objectives:
· to update participants knowledge of the growth and developmental needs of the middle years
· to identify the critical components of a "good" program
· to identify the benefits of after-school programs for children, families, and the community
· to identify strategies to overcome the barriers of providing programs for children 6-12 years old
