rather than cohesiveness, consider commitment to citizen support through
provision of economic and social resources.

Subject: Re: [SDOH] Advantage: The Brits

Commentary:
This article answers its very questions in the final paragraph!
"Could it be that our more unequal and fractured society is making us
sick?"

Having spent five months in London last year, I can attest to a greater
sense of social cohesiveness that I experienced. The feeling that permeated
the city on the afternoon of July 7, after the Tube bombings, was that of
strength, solidarity and a sense that we were all in this together. There
was not a lot of drama, but there was an understated warmth among people.
We were all concerned about each other.

Not sure what research evidence has to say about this, but from an
experiential point of view, this cohesiveness struck me as a strong
protective factor against the potential impact of this traumatic event.

"People in London walk more," says a friend who just returned from
England. But that doesn't explain the recent report that white,
middle-aged Americans are sicker than their British counterparts.
