Dear Professor Lynch
Is Professor Lundberg's talk likely to be posted to a website, or available
separately, later?
I am in Adelaide Australia and not able to attend.
Thanks

SEMINAR SERIES - 2007
Professor Olle Lundberg
Centre for Health Equity Studies, Stockholm University and Karolinska
Institute, Stockholm, Sweden
"EGALITARIAN SOCIAL POLICY
AND POPULATION HEALTH
IN SWEDEN AND THE NORDIC COUNTRIES"
Sweden and the other Nordic countries are often presented as compelling
examples of progressive social policy. For instance, both Canada and Sweden
have about 20% of children in poverty before taxes and transfers. After
taxes and transfers, child poverty in Sweden falls to 3% but in Canada it
remains at 17%. At the same time, Sweden has better levels of infant and
child health than Canada. Infant mortality is about 70% higher in Canada
than Sweden. To what extent can the high levels of population health be
directly linked to aspects of social policy in Sweden and the Nordic
countries? Professor Lundberg will explore, through historical and
contemporary comparisons, how different aspects of social policy in the
Nordic countries, including family welfare policy, may affect population
health.
