Subject: REGISTRATION NOW OPEN--Trans NIH workshop on METHODOLOGIC AND
CONCEPTUAL ISSUES IN CONDUCTING RESEARCH ON RACIAL/ETHNIC DISCRIMINATION
IN HEALTHCARE DELIVERY

METHODOLOGICAL AND CONCEPTUAL ISSUES IN CONDUCTING RESEARCH ON
RACIAL/ETHNIC DISCRIMINATION IN HEALTHCARE DELIVERY
Natcher Auditorium
NIH Main Campus
Bethesda, MD

September 29, 2008
8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

This workshop is being sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI)
in collaboration with the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute,
National Institute on Mental Health, National Institute of Diabetes and
Digestive and Kidney Diseases, and the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
The purpose of the workshop is to stimulate interest, improve
methodological approaches and encourage submission of high quality
research grant applications that examine the role of racial/ethnic
discrimination in the receipt of health care and health disparities.
The specific objectives of the technical workshop are:
o	To examine the current state and to identify gaps in the
research related to the role that racial/ethnic discrimination plays in
the receipt of health care in the US.
o	To generate a research agenda that identifies research questions
that are high priority, feasible and relevant to research on the role of
racial/ethnic discrimination in health care delivery.
o	To improve the technical and grant writing skills of applicants
and thus increase the likelihood of funding success.
o	To encourage the development of an interdisciplinary community
of scholars interested and conducting research on this topic.

The workshop will be video cast live at Natcher Auditorium and an
archived video cast and pod cast will be made available to the general
public to view at their convenience. The workshop coincides with the
recent reissue of PA 08-083 (R01), PA 08-084 (R21) and PA-08-085 (R03)
titled The Effect of Racial/Ethnic Discrimination/Bias on Health Care
Delivery.
