Dear Mark Twain Forum Members,

For those who wish to sign off the list, simply send an e-mail message to
the list server at:

[log in to unmask]

in the body of the e-mail message, type: SIGNOFF TWAIN-L

(Be sure to send this message to the above e-mail address and NOT the
[log in to unmask] address).

You will receive a confirmation that you have been removed from the list.
You are welcome to rejoin us at any time.

Now that most of us are using off-line mail editors, many recent messages to
the Mark Twain Forum include extraneous matter such as long signatures,
quotations of previous messages, and HTML encoding.

Short-postings and one-liners, such as "well-said," etc., are best directed
via private e-mail to the person who originally posted the message instead
of the Forum list. All of this eventually ends up in our archives server
where it occupies space and needlessly slows down text searches.

Please be sure to disable these “features” in your e-mail programs before
sending messages to the Forum. There are many mail managers so procedures
may vary but here is how to disable extraneous matter in your messages in
Outlook Express:

1. To disable long signatures (An adequate signature contains only your
name, e-mail address, and (if desired) your affiliation.): In the main
Outlook Express menu, select “tools,” “options,” “signatures” then be sure
that “Add signatures to all outgoing messages” is NOT checked.

2. To avoid quoting previous messages in replies: In the main menu, select
“tools,” “options,” “send” and make sure “Include message in reply” is NOT
checked.

3. To avoid sending your message in HTML: In the main menu, select “tools,”
“options,” “send” and check “Plain Text” under “Mail Sending Format.” Also
go to “Plain Text Settings.” Under “message format” select MIME and under
“encode text using,” select “none.”

If you have any questions, please contact me directly at [log in to unmask]

Thanks for your participation in the Mark Twain Forum and for helping to
keep the conversation as clutter-free as possible.

Best regards,

Kevin Bochynski
