I agree with you completely.  I'm so grateful that we've been informed
about such a disturbing fact:  A respected institution, which registers
copyrights, responsible for serious copyright infractions.  I can't
understand why this hasn't been a national media sensation!  What I hope is
that the book will be withdrawn, our competent researchers paid for their
corrections, and a revised book be republished in time for NEXT Christmas
if it can't be done for this year.  I'm also surprised Mark Twain scholars
weren't given the opportunity to vet the facts before publication.
