Greetings,

Linda Morris’s work on women’s humor writing, and on Mark Twain and issues of gender, is well known and much admired. In recent years she has focused on the role of the Clemens daughters, particularly Susy, and on Wednesday night, December 7, at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time, you’ll get a chance to hear her speak of Susy’s last years via the Hartford house’s “The Trouble Begins” series.

I heard Linda on this topic during the recent Elmira conference and was of course fascinated by her wealth detail and authority. She pulls no punches about Susy’s relationship with Louise Brownell and the tougher aspects of her relationship with her father.

The lecture/interview series on Twainian subjects that Director of Collections Jodi DeBruyne has been running has been top-notch, and this is not one to miss. It’s a virtual program, free and available wherever you are.

More info and registration can be found here:

Cheers,

Steve

P.S. Past Trouble Beginses (is that the plural?), and presumably this one soon, are available on the Trouble Begins YouTube Channel here<https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMRr9Lz4CpamzN1Ta5Pv4yGPnSTY7pYJX>.
