TOBACCO RESEARCH FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

The research funding partners of the Canadian Tobacco Control Research
Initiative (CTCRI) are please to announce new opportunities for
researchers, practitioners and decision makers:

COMMUNITY BASED RESEARCH GRANTS www.ctcri.ca/en-pages/cbr-grants.htm  are
aimed to support community-based, multisectoral research related to
nicotine addiction. Priority will be given to proposals involving the
Aboriginal community, those exploring child and youth health and those
incorporating the topic of sex and/or gender.
Deadline for the letters of intent is April 1, 2005; for full proposals -
October 1, 2005.
Amount of Award is up to $250,000 each year for up to five years. Funding
is available to support up to two grants.

Cross-addiction research is a new research funding opportunity exploring
the cross-addictions of tobacco, substance abuse and gambling. KNOWLEDGE
SYNTHESIS and SECONDARY ANALYSIS  GRANTS are available to support research
exploring at least two of the cross-addictions.

This funding is available through a new strategic initiative, "Research in
Addictions: Innovative Approaches in Health Research",  a partnership with
the funding partners of CTCRI, the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse and
the Interprovincial Consortium on Problem Gambling Research.
Deadline for registration is May 1, 2005; for full application - August 1,
2005.
Amount of Award is up to $80,000 one-time for Knowledge Synthesis grants
and up to $40,000 for Secondary Analysis grants.
Funding is available to support three Knowledge Synthesis and three
Secondary Analysis grants that explore the cross-addictions.

CTCRI is also pleased to announce continuation of existing grant
opportunities in tobacco abuse and nicotine addiction research.

IDEA GRANTS
Award: up to $50,000 for one year.  Deadlines: October 1 and April 1.
KNOWLEDGE SYNTHESIS GRANTS
Up to $80,000 for 1 year is awarded; $5,000 awarded for successful Letters
of Intent.
Deadlines for Letters of Intent is April 1 and October 1, for full
proposals - October 1 and April 1 respectively.
POLICY RESEARCH GRANTS
Up to $80,000 one-time grant is awarded for a period of up to 2 years.
Deadlines are October 1 and April 1.
RESEARCH PLANNING GRANTS
Uup to $15,000 for one year is awarded. Deadlines are February 28, May 30,
August 30 and November 30.
RESEARCHER TRAVEL GRANTS
Award is up to $3,000. Applications must be received at least 30 days in
advance of the event.
STUDENT RESEARCH GRANTS
Award is up to $10,000.Deadlines are March 30, June 30, September 30 and
December 30.
WORKSHOP AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITY GRANTS
Award is up to $15,000. Applications must be received at least 90 days in
advance of the planned event.
