Wellesley Central Health Corporation (WCHC) is pleased to announce a new
awards call in support of community-based research.

Wellesley Urban Health (WUH) Research Program

Goal: To reduce health inequalities in urban settings through the execution
of community- and policy-relevant community-based research projects.

Wellesley Central Health Corporation takes as its mission the promotion of
healthy urban communities. An independent, self-funding, not-for-profit
organization, WCHC is a champion of the emerging urban health movement. WCHC
currently supports research initiatives that seek to understand the impact
of social and economic disadvantage on the health of marginalized
communities.

For 2004-2005, priority will be given to research projects focussed on youth
and/or the homeless that are conceptualized within at least one of the three
social determinants of health most relevant to Toronto - housing, social
exclusion, and income and income distribution.

Continuing in our commitment to support innovation in community-based
research approaches, the WUH Research Program will award research projects
based on strength of collaboration, innovation and rigour in methods, and
the potential for action outcomes including the ability to inform public
policy. Advanced Community-Based Research Awards are provided to a maximum
amount of $50,000 per project and are available for projects of up to two
years in length.
