HEALTH ECONOMIST POSITION AVAILABLE
Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (Los Angeles, California)

Monthly salary: $4,667.64--$5,798.82

Position information: This position has the principal responsibility for planning, developing and implementing economic analyses and related research projects designed to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of department services, and to contribute to program policy decisions.  The Health Economist must have advanced research and other analytic skills related to economic analysis, cost-benefit analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, and burden of disease measurement.

Essential job functions: Plans, initiates, and develops studies of the economic impact of health conditions and health risk behaviors in the county population; evaluates existing research literature on health-related economic analyses and applies the findings for evidence-based program planning and policy development; uses economic analysis to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of Public Health programs, including bioterrorism preparedness activities; provides consultation to DHS managers on program evaluation and methods of economic analysis; conceives, develops and promotes special research projects; prepares grant applications and serves as the lead liaison with state and federal agencies and foundations on activities related to economic analysis; prepares county reports and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals; gives presentations in community forums and at professional meetings.
