Hello:
As part of a contract with the Nova Scotia (Canada) Department of Health, I
am working to identify plain language parent education resources to support
the Healthy Beginnings Enhanced Home Visiting Program (and other programs).
Healthy Beginnings is a new provincial initiative aimed at families with
children from birth to three years of age who need extra support for any of
a variety of reasons. Some of the challenges that make these families
candidates for Healthy Beginnings have implications for the resources that
will be useful to them: low literacy, physical and mental challenges, and
English as a second language.
Our work includes reviewing parent education materials in use elsewhere in
Canada as well as internationally. We are also conducting a literature
review on best practises for health education resource material aimed at
parents. From our review we will make recommendations as to the best
parent education resources to either acquire or develop.
If you have any suggestions on exciting new parent education resources that
have been developed and may be appropriate, research on best practises, or
suggestions for people we should be talking to, it would be great to hear
from you.
Cheers!
