Advances in antiretroviral HIV treatment and coverage have led to increasing numbers of perinatally infected children surviving to adolescence and adulthood. In February 2012, the United States Agency for International Development's Africa Bureau and the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief PMTCT/Pediatric Technical Working Group hosted a field-driven learning meeting in Gaborone, Botswana for U.S. government staff and key African partners to share knowledge and experience on how to best care for this growing population. Eleven adolescent participants represented communities affected by HIV in Botswana, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, and Zambia participated the consultation's planning and execution.
