Pat, I would recommend you look at a best practice guideline  "Enhancing Adolescent Development" from the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario available at

The reference list and bibliography in this document will generate many research articles and items of interest to you.

As well the Search Institute has much to say about asset based approaches and has several research reports available. http://www.search-institute.org/
