Health Canada's online resource selects Women's Health Matters as its
women's health authority

Toronto, Ont. (May 6, 2004) - The Canadian Health Network has selected
www.womenshealthmatters.ca and www.femmesensante.ca as their women's
affiliate, to provide a source for timely, accurate and relevant information
on women's health.

The $250,000 in funding will allow the women's consumer health information
web sites of Sunnybrook & Women's to review and choose quality resources, as
well as build and maintain a collection of e-based women's health
information for the CHN web site (located at
www.canadian-health-network.ca).

"We're delighted to be chosen as an affiliate, especially given that the
values of the CHN and the Women's Health Matters web sites are so similar.
Both strive to help Canadians find information on how to stay healthy and
prevent disease," says Sheryl Mitchell, Director of Women's Health
Partnerships at Sunnybrook & Women's.

The new affiliate status will also involve developing Frequently Asked
Questions for the women's health topic area, preparing feature articles and
responding to health information requests.

Reviewed by experts at Sunnybrook & Women's, and the Centre for Research in
Women's Health (CRWH), the Women's Health Matters websites offer many unique
features, such as virtual Health Centres, where women can learn more about
topics like cancer, cardiovascular health and osteoporosis and a news area
for the latest developments in women's health. There is a link to
interviews with women's health experts; Health Bytes, offering health facts,
and Le Club, a meeting place for women to share their stories, experiences
and questions with other women and with women's health experts. The web
sites also offer a searchable database of women's health resources.

"Knowledge translation, which involves conducting and fostering research
relevant to women's lives, and ensuring it is actually applied, is our main
focus with this exciting new project," says Dr. Heather Maclean, Director of
the Centre for Research in Women's Health. "As a collaborator in this
project, we will help to make research relevant and applicable for Canadian
women."

Women's health experts from Sunnybrook & Women's College Health Sciences
Centre and the Centre for Research in Women's Health developed the Women's
Health Matters web sites in January 2000. www.womenshealthmatters.ca /
www.femmesensante.ca are your sources for reliable, evidence-based and
up-to-date information on women's health.
