I am working for the Alberta Cancer Board, where we are just in the
process of rolling out a provincial cervical cancer screening program.
The program includes letters of introduction to Alberta women between
the ages of 18-69 explaining the program, and then a system of follow up
that reminds the woman and her physician when she is overdue for her Pap
test, a letter to each indicating the result of the Pap test, and
recommended follow up, if any, and then reminders to the physician to
ensure that follow up is done.

The literature indicates that where a systematic approach like this is
in place, the interval between screenings can be stretched to two years
rather than just one. We are currently recommending annual Pap tests,
but anticipate changing that to bi-annual once the program is fully
implemented. I would be interested in hearing from others who work/have
worked with such programs about how you handled communicating this
change in recommendation. How did you position the change and what kind
of feedback did you get from women and physicians?

Thanks.
