I do not know of a specific tool. However, we conducted a community prevention needs assessment around addiction issues about 6 years ago. We were interested in determining what kinds of activities were needed, e.g., print, education sessions, media, etc. The one outstanding thing that I remember is that we realized too late that the 'tool' we used in the community was not suitable for youth. They envision their needs in an entirely different way.

Hello Fellow Subscribers,

We are looking for community needs assessment tools related to substance abuse prevention.  Our agency is the host for one of the FOCUS projects in Ontario which is wanting to conduct a community needs assessment to assist with its substance abuse prevention planning for the next few years.

To avoid re-inventing the wheel, any suggestions or tools that you may have, or be aware of, that would lend some direction to types of tools, types of questions, framing of questions etc. would be appreciated.  We have already accessed available resources from the FOCUS resource centre and CAMH.
