Health Studies Program

The School of Physical and Health Education at Queen’s University,
Kingston invites applications for a tenure track position in Health
Promotion at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2005.
The School is seeking an innovative researcher and committed teacher
who, through demonstrated excellence or potential in both teaching and
scholarship, will be able to contribute to the development of a new
comprehensive Bachelor of Arts in Health Studies. Applications are
invited from social or behavioural scientists whose interests focus on
the social or psycho-social determinants of health. The School has a
multidisciplinary perspective that spans the physical, biological,
epidemiological, socio-cultural and psycho-social dimensions of health.
  Candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds (including health
promotion, community health, psychology, sociology, kinesiology,
physical education, nursing, medical anthropology, geography, and
health communication studies or related fields) are encouraged to
apply.  The successful candidate must be able to teach a second year
course in health promotion and an upper level course on program
evaluation. Knowledge of contemporary critiques of health promotion
would be an asset.   All candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree and have
experience teaching at the university level. Salary will be
commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Applications will be accepted until January 31, 2005 or until a
suitable candidate is identified.  Applicants should submit a letter of
application which includes a description of their research direction
and teaching philosophy; a curriculum vitae including scholarly
productivity and external funding as well as evidence of undergraduate
teaching experience.  Applicants should also arrange to have letters of
reference from three reviewers supporting both teaching and research
potential sent to Dr. Janice Deakin, Director, School of Physical and
