Conference on a South Asian Plan of Action: South Asia, a region of
increasing importance to Canada, is home to the greatest number of
children in difficult circumstances. South Asia Partnership Canada and
its partners for this conference want to promote the international
dimensions of Canada's Plan and determine how Canada and Canadians can
support actions in the South Asian region to benefit children there.
The conference aims to: 1) Draft an early response to "A Canada Fit for
Children" focusing on South Asian children, 2) Outline a South Asian
strategy and recommendations for Canada and the National Plans of
Action, 3) Facilitate networking and build relationships for Canadian
involvement in the national plans of action in South Asia. The
conference will be held on September 13-14, 2004, at 250 Albert Street,
Ottawa, Canada. For more information, see www.sapcanada.org.

First global health watch: We are calling activists, health workers and
academics from around the world to submit case studies and testimonies
to supplement the first edition of the report. The Global Health Watch
is a non-government initiative aimed at supporting civil society to more
effectively campaign and lobby for 'health for all' and equitable access
to health care. This is not a matter of finding a technical or economic
prescription, but is one that requires political mobilisation to shift
resources and attention towards the needs of the poor, and to reform the
very political and social institutions that have generated the state of
ill health today. For more information on the Global Health Watch see
www.ghwatch.org.
