Subject: Fall 2005 Learning Series

Just a note to let you know that the curriculum for the Fall Sessions of the
SMARTRISK Learning Series has been set.

On September 21 at 11:15am, the Learning Series Fall season begins with a
session entitled "Keep your head up... a primer on cold water immersion and
near drowning" . This session will provide an update on mechanisms for the
surprising survival of some victims of long-term submersion in cold water and
strategies for surviving cold-water immersion.

In October (Wed. Oct. 19th 10am), in response to participant requests, we will
feature a session on Writing a Successful Funding Proposal. Frances Shamley,
a Community Animator from the Ontario Healthy Communities Coalition, will
provide strategies for effective proposal writing to help participants to
develop coherent and fundable proposals for their injury prevention
initiatives.

We are currently finalizing the details for a session in November or early
December, which is intended for practitioners looking for more advanced
content, in the area of senior's falls. As part of our State of the Art
Series, this session will examine current research and emerging practice in
the field of falls prevention for seniors. Details about this session will be
available later in September.

For more information on these sessions check our website regularly at
