[from memory]
A physician is walking by the river and sees someone drowning. She rushes
over, drags the person out and begins to administer CPR. Just as the
person begins to come-to, the physician sees another person drifting down
the river. Again, she drags the person out, adnministers CPR and arouses
the person. But everytime just as the physician brings the person to,
another person drifts down the river. This goes on the whole day.
Exasperated, the physician cries out: "I am so busy trying to save all
these people that are drifing down the river and drowning, I never get the
chance to ask them who [what?] is pushing them into the river."
