The Social and Public Health Sciences Unit at the University of Glasgow has done some interesting research on social housing in Scotland - one project is detailed below.

See:

Scotland's Housing and Regeneration Project: SHARP
(Petticrew and Ade Kearns, Caroline Hoy, and Phil Mason of the Department of Urban Studies)

<http://www.msoc-mrc.gla.ac.uk/CurrentResearch/Evaluating/areas/images/SHARP-Logo.jpg> This collaborative project (with Professor Ade Kearns and Dr Caroline Hoy at the Department of Urban Studies at the University of Glasgow) is funded by Chief Scientist Office and Communities Scotland, and involves a large quasi-experimental Scotland-wide investigation of the health effects of urban regeneration and new social housing. A total of 330 households are being followed over 2 years in a longitudinal assessment of the health and related effects of major housing improvement. A matched comparison group has also been interviewed, and additional qualitative research has been carried out to explore the impact of the intervention in more depth. The study employs a broad model of health which will incorporate measures of physical and mental health, health behaviours, wellbeing, social participation, social networks, and perceptions of neighborhood. Final results will be available in 2006.

Subject: [CLICK4HP] Social Housing Evaluations

     Hello,

I am currently designing an evaluation of a series of social housing
programs, and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for

reports, resources, etc. that I could review to see what others have done on
similar projects. The social housing programs I am

targeting deal with public housing projects, rent supplements,
cooperative/non-profit housing projects, First Nations/Aboriginal

home ownership/rental projects, and rural housing programs.

If anyone can suggest relevant evaluations of similar programs or reports on
best practice approaches to social housing program

delivery, I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks!
