Hi everyone

A friend passes this on to me and I thought it would be useful to others
in Click 4HP.

Internet consumer health education documents should improve consumer
health! However, in a recent study,
http://www.interactive-healthcare.com/92text.htm, less than half of
physicians reported that they thought that patients' access to the
Internet contributed to disease management. A concern is that
patients are accessing unfiltered, unscientific,
commercally-motivated, and poorly focused consumer health
resources. Indeed, there is a fear that the net's raw information
sources will cause patients to seek inappropriate therapies which
will result in frustration for both healthcare providers and
patients.

To address this, Medical Matrix, www.medmatrix.org, offers the
following "Internet Consumer Health Resources List". The ranks in
this list are based on a resource's ability to support and enhance
consumers' interaction with experts in a complex,
scientifcally-based healthcare system. In this regard, we have
emphasized sites that provide disease-specific information that can
assist a patient in asking appropriate questions during a health
provider encounter. Our Medical Matrix Code of Conduct and Ranking
Criteria for Medical Documents,
http://www.medmatrix.org/info/sitesurvey.html, have been applied.
These measurements consider:

1. Point of Care Application
2. Dimension
3. Peer Review
4. Hierarchical Knowledge
5. Authority
6. Currency
7. Conflicts of Interest
8. Navigation

Please distribute this Resource List as you may wish, especially to
patients at the point of care, but acknowledge the source by
including the header. (This list and category will appear on
Medical Matrix in the near future.) Feedback is of course welcome.

Regards, gary, [log in to unmask]
